Skyy – First Time Around (Larry Levan 12inch mix)
More evidence (as if we needed it) of the remixing genius of Larry Levan. The original is a beautiful Salsoul number from label stalwarts Skyy whose back catalogue is littered with favourites, but Larry ups the tempo a notch, tweaks the eqs, breaks out the delay and with very little rearranging makes it sound like it’s been recorded in space. I LOVE this tune; the kind that makes me close my eyes and wince with the joy of it all.
At the risk of labouring the point that you should hunt it down no matter what it takes, this also appears on Theo Parrish’s Methods of Movement mix. Our own P Rice has implored you all earlier to pick it up when he posted Sandman by the Undisputed Truth some weeks ago – so I won’t bang on about it again, or at least no more obviously than relentlessly whacking up tunes that feature on it.
One day to go before I hit the Big Apple. My next post might be stateside – else it’ll be Rob with me poking him with a stick to egg him on with more of those mean acapellas…

Possibly my favourite Levan Mix of all time and it still sounds brilliant after all these years. Now I've just got to find it and play it really loud.
