2006-12-10 by Tommy SqueakerMJ Cole ft Jay Dee and Nova Caspar – Sincere (re-cued)
MJ Cole was a well respected part of the UK garage sound of the late nineties but he didn’t share the urban roots of most of his peers in the scene, being a classically trained musician who attended the Royal College of Music. I don’t know a great deal of his other sparage stuff, or the Drum & Bass he started out with before settling on 2 Step – will have to check in with DC junglist supremo, the Double K, for the lowdown on that.
MJ’s done enough to earn my respect with this gorgeous number though. It’s got a particular place in my heart as it reminds me of my good mate from Cardiff, Phil, who’s currently carving a niche for himself out in Goa with the lovely Supriya. I’d like to think he’ll check this out and smile at the thought of it – it was always one of his favourite tunes. If you’re out there, Phil, enjoy! And see you in the spring, hopefully -assuming my bank balance ever recovers from the Manhattan sized chunk I’ve just taken out of it…

MJ Cole was hot on the Uk Garage/2step scene way back in the day – good sound going on, still hasn't dated for me!
MJ Cole is great, although I don't know anything about any D'n'B stuff he's done I'm afraid.
The Sincere LP is a classic, but the later Cut To The Chase shows off the full range of his talent: he has a different guest vocalist on each track, and makes the tunes to suit their vocal styles, from sultry R'n'B through speed garage to full-on craziness for the track with Elephant Man.
I think he's an old schoolfriend of our very own Doodle D.
