Liquid Funk [1]

Big Bud – Millenium (Carlito Remix)
Apologies for the break in service from me also – it’s been about three weeks now since I posted anything I think – did you miss me? Anyway, here I am back with a trio of tunes to hopefully set your toes tapping.
“Liquid Funk” is the name given to the somewhat laidback style of jungle typified by these here tracks. In fact, all three are taken from a CD compilation which came out in 2000 called “Fabio Presents Liquid Funk”, which is apparently where the name for the genre was first coined.
On the face of it mellow and jazzy aren’t really the kind of thing you really want to see coupled with jungle, and indeed at it’s worst Liquid Funk is little better than Jungle Muzak: Jungle with the rough edges so polished that nothing of any real substance is left. But at it’s best Liquid Funk brings sweeping soundscapes, mellow strings and head-nodding funky beats with enough edge to stay interesting.
This track is a case in point: the production is smooth, ambience is provided by tinkling bells and symphonic strings, but the bass and beats (when they eventually drop) are plenty ruff.
- Buy "Fabio Presents Liquid Funk"
- For quite a lot of money...
