MC Lyte – Cha Cha Cha
KRS One once questioned the use of the term ‘old school’ by pointing out that a lot of tunes people refer to as old school really weren’t that old at all. That was some time ago and now we’re knocking on 20 years since this tune was released. MC Lyte’s delivery will always make this tune sound fresh to me.
Cha Cha Cha, like Cherchez La Femme which I recently posted, also features on J Rocc’s ‘Sex Machine Today’ mix. This tune is worth buying for the cover alone which puts you right back in the 1980’s in a Miami Vice-tastic fashion. As well as being the only MC to ever rhyme the words possible and hospital and carry it off, she also refers to back fat, a subject particularly close to my heart, or perhaps I should say buttocks.

You guys have done it again… and by "it" I mean "shown me that a song I love is sampled wholesale from an older song". The Cuts remix on the b-side of the Ozomatli single "Cut Chemist Suite" is basically just them rapping over this MC Lyte track! Such a great bassline. Top work yet again, DC Crew!
