Lalo Schifrin – Ape Shuffle
A tasty slice of simian soundtrack funk from Argentinian pianist and composer Lalo Schifrin who has scored over 100 movies and TV series, provided a cornucopia of hip-hop samples, and who is most widely recognised for the burning fuse theme music from Mission Impossible.
I dug this one up after hearing this month’s typically obscure, eclectic and funkier than thou guest mix on DJ History by Nick the Record, legendary collector and proprietor of the DJ Friendly Records.
Of course, the version dropped by Nick isn’t the common or garden or soulseekable variety, but the very rare to find cover version by the Jeff Wayne Group with extra funk and bonus space noises.
I know that Squeaker is looking to ID some of the other tracks on this mix. There has been some discussion here as to the tracklisting, but no one has yet come up with the serious goods.

thanks for this!!! that mix of Nick's is ridiculously cool, been hammering it around these parts!!!
Lalo is coming to play with the WA Symphony Orchestra and Aussie trumpet legend James Morrison on July 5th. I am FECKING PUMPED as I never thought I'd see the man himself. I'm going with a mate whose fave album of all time is Lalo's "Towering Toccata".
looks like they took it down. but never fear. the single is also included on The Mood Mosaic Vol. 9 – The Sound Bullett
