Prince – Housequake (12inch mix)

Just a quickie from me in honour of the Minneapolis maestro kicking off his 21 dates in London (one of which I hope to be catching, along with Kevvy K and others) and to encourage you to get on over to Basilika to partake in Jaksoul’s week of Prince-ness.

Presumably, the ‘House’ in Housequake was at least partly inspired by what was kicking off up the road from him in Chicago at the time Sign of the Times was being assembled. The beat and the shouty rap like vocals have more to do with electro than the disco influenced four to the floor that we’d come to know and love as house music – but never let it be said that Prince wasn’t someone able to soak up the sound of any new and interesting musical event that was going on around him. With this 12inch mix, you get a full on jam session workout to add to the basic structure of the original. Stone cold funk and played loud it’s a dancefloor killer. I think it’s called the Mo Quake mix, but it’s not labelled as that on my copy.

More sun, please.
