Oh yes I am (oh no you're not etc...)
2007-12-17 by Tommy SqueakerNorma Jean Bell – Yes I am (I’m gonna get you)
Well get me and my two posts in four days – they don’t call me “the machine” squeaker for nothing. In fact they don’t call me the machine at all. I’m sure I’ve said that here before.
This is the Norma Jean Bell tune that I mentioned last week that samples Gill Scott Heron’s We Almost Lost Detroit. It’s off her 2001 Come Into My Room album and predictably features KDJ on production duties. It’s simple but effective stuff – a trademark drum loop, that GSH sample, a bassline that sounds live and could be Bubs Fiddler (although he’s not credited) and NJB’s alto sax and Sharon Jones’ vocal clips on top. Elsewhere on the double LP, Theo Parrish and K Hand pay visits. Norma Jean herself is a serious talent, having been around since the p-funk days before hooking up with the next wave. Her and Amp Fiddler are old school.
Well, it’s cold enough to be Christmassy in these parts. I like a bit of frost though, me.

top notch (as ever)! never quite got round to getting my paws on the boogie-tastic version of NJB's 'i'm the baddest…'
Cheers! Got that version kicking round somewhere. I'll dig it out at some point.
