Raymond Scott – Lightworks

I find this tune both sweet and slightly disturbing at the same time. You wouldn’t normally hear this sugary Broadway-style vocal set to electronic music, but Raymond Scott doesn’t seem to have been constrained by such concerns. During the 1950’s & 60’s he was making electronic music like this, using instruments that he designed and made himself.

I’m sure I remember fellow DC contributer Hal Berstram telling me about some other Raymond Scott tunes released under the title ‘Soothing Sounds For Baby’. In 2000 the ‘Manhatten Research Inc’ compilation came out, featuring this tune and may others. J Dilla fans will recognise Lightworks from ‘Donuts’.
