Aaron Neville – Tell it Like It Is
Has anyone ever vibratoed quite like this? Is that even the word for what this guy is doing with his voice?
I hold my hands up in the air, for having been somewhat dismissive of Aaron, largely through only being au fait with his much later, and much more MOR recording career. Well, as always, you dig a little deeper, and we find this guy with an incredibly emotive voice singing all manner of southern soul goodies, often arranged, written and produced by the legendary Allen Toussaint. This despairing tale of a possibly-jilted John was number one in the R&B charts in 1967 .
And a personal plug from me.. go and check this new documentary out if you’re at all interested in climate justice and the crappiness of carbon trading. Not all at once mind.. we don’t want to overheat the server.
