Houseful Soul

Rahsaan Patterson Love In StereoRahsaan Patterson – It Ain’t Love

My tastes in Soul are generally confined to the mid-80’s and before with, of course, a few exceptions. This is one such exception. After the opening orchestral section, this tune breaks into a deep groove which pushes on right through the track, driven by a fantastic squidgey P-Funk style bassline. I’m calling it houseful soul because it has genuine house sensibilities, but comes from a soul artist. In the extremely unlikely event that this phrase catches on, remember you heard it here first.

For those of you who, like myself, get a bit obsessed with owning vinyl copies of tunes, this one is a little tricky to track down. It features on the 1999 album ‘Love In Stereo’ and the only vinyl copy I could find was a promo. Maybe I wasn’t looking in the right places though.

Wow! I had no idea who this guy was only discovered that he was the "The Kid" on the American television show Kids Incorporated, which was one of my favorites as a child. Glad to see his career went further than that. Great tune! Thank you.

This is a lovely tune, Jimster. And I find it's the source of a great Theo sample, from one of his ugly edits I think – I'll dig it out and post it.
