Some Blue Notes

Bobby Hutcherson – Goin’ Down South
Bearing in mind that Wales won the Triple Crown earlier today, I’m in a reasonably sedate mood. Call it a state of quiet contentedness. This tune suits my mood well. I’d go as far as to say that this is one of my favourite tunes. I have lots and lots of favourite tunes, but this would be on the list.
Goin’ Down South is a 1970 Blue Note release from vibraphonist Bobby Hutcherson. Any other Blue Note or Hip Hop fans out there (I suspect that many are both) would do well to download J Rocc’s recent ‘Droppin’ Science’ mix. You can get it from the Giant Steps website. This tune doesn’t feature but its a belter.

It gives me an inescapable image of Nathan Barley trying to woo a lady friend into sexual complicity with his patois rhymes.. "Goin' down South, South with my mouth"...
