The Rave Piano [3]
2008-04-03 by The Double KCongress – 40 Miles (Original White Label Mix)

There’s simply no way we can do piano anthems without including this track. It was absolutely huge in the clubs at the time (which was 1991) – any DJ worth his salt spun it (I definitely remember Easygroove playing it) to rapturous cheers, and it even made it to the dizzy heights of 26 in the UK charts.
To be honest 40 Miles was never one of my favourites… it’s a little too lame, a little too cheesy (yes even for me!). The pianos are nice, but I just think the whole thing chugs along without any real oomph.
But like I said, there’s no way it can be overlooked as far as piano tunes go so here it is. Classic or clunker? You decide.

It's funny, it's such a familiar riff but I'd never actually heard this version before. I assume it's the original.
My fave use of it was on SMD#1 (Which I think was Slipmatt wasn't it?) with the psycho chicken sample.
You're right though, once you get past the piano it is a bit of a plodder. Certainly ripe for the dodgy harcore bootleg remixes.
I remember this hitting the charts, a performance on top of the pops(rip) in the day when they made all their performers sing live. was terrible as I recall.
> I assume it's the original.
Actually, no this is a sample too.
I think the original is Jimi Polo's Better Days, from 1989.
Well, here's a very late comment, but how about posting that there Jimi Polo track? ;-)
Yep don't worry I'll get round to it at some point KL – I've got another monster piano track lined up to come too, which should have been included in piano week but was sadly looked over.
I finally worked out where I know this piano from…
Fatboy Slim's "Song for Lindy"

But I'd still like to hear the Jimi Polo track :-)
Don't know the F.B.S. track, but you're in luck – as chance would have it I'd just decided to finally sort out the Jimi Polo track today!
Watch this space.
