Los Hermanos – Quetzal
I’m back from a glorious week in the Gower (enjoying spectacular scenery like this), and whilst one never really feels relaxed and refreshed living with two small children, I’m about as close to it as I’ve been for some time. Lovely.
To reflect my good mood, and to complement the beautiful weather we’re having at the moment, here is a track I’ve been enjoying quite a lot recently: some top quality mellow techno from Detroit, from 2002. Los Hermanos are part of the Underground Resistance crew, so you know you can expect quality stuff right from the start.
Quetzal is based around a deceptively simple little synth hook (although not quite in fitting with the current “deadly synths” series… what with it being a week since the last synth-related posting I figure it’s OK to branch out a bit) plus big warm bass, a good deal of woodblock and cowbell type percussion and a lovely string section.
A track that can be enjoyed by anyone and everyone I’m sure.
P.S. I have heard the recent requests for more jungle and will get on the case presently!

Quality tune, Mr K. Los Hermanos was mainly Rolando of Jaguar fame and Gerald Mitchell (aka the Deacon) who was behind Soul City. Serious pedigree. Rolando’s left now, mind.
Absolutely Brilliant. Love the simplicity of the hook – just great. I'm sure I've got some Rolando shit somewhere…....
Wonderful!
Very Underground Resistance synth styles, signature Mad Mike progression (think he might hold a little sway with his crew right?). Love the detroit deep techno sound, not enough heads keyed into this… more!
Oh and haven't seen him for a minute but Rolando is also a bad ass DJ… don't sleep…
Yep this one is gold… I love this kind of effortlessly grooving house stuff. More of this always welcome!
