A little something...

SylvesterI (Who Have Nothing)

Does the recent sporadic and sputtering output of Dilated Choonz signal that the end is somewhat imminent? Is this the effects of the three year itch? Has blog-fatigue set in from all quarters simultaneously? Or is it just a new equilibrium of getting a tune or two out there every week or so? Who knows?

This was originally a track but out by Ben E King in 1964, but was based on an Italian song that I haven’t heard called Uno dei tanti. Some folks believed that Knights in Whits Satin ripped off a big bit of the melody, and you can defintiely see (hear?) their point.

So, this is the epic, pounding, cow bell-soaked 1979 disco version from Sylvester. I know he’s a bit ‘marmite’ (of the ‘love it or hate it’ rather than the ‘starfish’ variety) but I’m definitely in awe of much of his output over the years, and I think that this track might have some of his finest moments of gospel falsettos. Great extended breakdown bit towards the end too.

I can understand not liking Marmite, but who could dislike this? Impossible.

This isn't a bad track although I prefer his collaborations with Patrick Cowley; thanks for taking the time to post this up.
