Whirlpool Productions - From disco to disco (Original Album Version)

2006-10-23 by Kevvy K

Disco
This was a big hit in Europe back in 96, to the point of going to number one in Italy. I may have been out the country at the time, but I don’t really remember it having such a big impact in the UK. Whirlpool Productions included Justus Köhncke, the Cologne-based disco maestro who has received muchos props recently for his output on the so-hip-it-hurts label Kompakt.

Anyway, there’s wonderful funky organ action laid over a taut little blippy jack-track with some incredibly stoned vocals on top doing a heartfelt parody of soulful earnestness, to the point where the chanteur in questions loses his poker face and endearingly collapses into twatted giggles.

This was released again in May this year with a bunch of new remixes, but I haven’t really had the pleasure to be honest.

Is there a "straight" version of this song where the singer keeps his shit together? I absolutely love the tune, but always get looks when I try to put it on for other people.

Nice blog Steve, I've always been a big fan of fractal broccoli.
I don't have any idea I'm afraid about a 'straight' version, all I can suggest in the meantime is that you look 'em back. Harder.

Yeah I have a version on vinyl, with the Les Rythmes Digitales mix, which I think was always the one I played out, although maybe it was the T-empo one… anyway it slowed right down in the middle with the vocal "hip hop to house at the click of a mouse" then sped back up to house tempo (just as it says):

The new Wighnomy Brothers Remix is quite nice. Sehr Knuspriger Mikroshuffle!
