Adriano Celentano – Disc Jockey (versione ok)
I don’t know practically anything about this other than the fact that it has a certain something that I keep coming back to and it fills my ears with aural goodness. It has a really different kind of vibe to it that I am hard pushed to describe.. I love the stompy, almost klezmer-like beat that carries it through after the big dramatic intro, with a constant chunk of that descending “bum bum bum bum bum bum” bit from “These Boots Are Made For Walking”. Haven’t got a clue what he’s going on about, but I’d lay money on the fact that it is on the out-there side. They were all drug-twatted back in them days.
This came out in 1973 (a good year for things being brought into the world, if I do say so myself), and you may be asking yourself, just who is this mysterious Calentano fellow… well according to his homepage, he is “a single device of harmonies, agreements and discords. An irregular one. Singer, polemicist, actor, director, producer, dancer, composer, inventor of rhythms, creator of musical, television, cinema and mental spaces, humorist, ecologist…. Elusive. You never know who he really is and what will be his next planetary conspiracy that will blow up certainties and “common sense” thoughts. He is a green beam that you see indistinctly some evenings on the line of the horizon, anticipating an event. At times he appears, at times not. Pauses of silence.”
