One Redeeming Moment

Boz Scaggs – Lowdown

It seems that in the 1970’s many erstwhile dodgy artists hit upon the odd cracker (check the Fezz by Steely Dan, and I Get Lifted by KC & the Sunshine Band which was posted here some time ago). I might be being unfair but I’m pretty sure that I wouldn’t have much time for anything else released by this artist, who started out as part of the Steve ‘I’m a Joker, I’m a smoker, I’m a nicky nacky noker’ Miller Band. This tune was released in 1976 and was a big US hit. Ask your Dad, who might even consider busting a few moves if he heard this at a wedding.

MF Doom used this for one of his many great Special Herbs instrumentals. Boz just couldn’t resist the iffy guitar solo though.

it was a good song, from an awful album (Silk Degrees) which contained a truly awful version of the Allen Toussaint classic "What do you want the girl to do".

Australian comic Norman Gunston did a funny pisstake of the Silk Degrees album, called Nylon Degrees.
